The Football Wife

I saw this on a different blog and had to share...

 THE FOOTBALL WIFE

The good Lord was creating a model for football wives, and was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared. She said, “Lord you seem to be having a lot of trouble with this one. What’s wrong with the standard model?”
The Lord replied, “ Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, possess the qualities of both father and mother, be a perfect hostess to 4 or 40 with an hour’s notice, run on black coffee, handle every emergency imaginable without a manual, be able to carry on cheerfully, even if she is pregnant and has the flu, and she must be willing to move to a new location 10 times in 17 years. And oh, yes. She must have six pairs of hands.”

The angel shook her head. “Six pairs of hands? No way.”

The Lord continued, “Don’t worry; we will make other wives to help her. And we will give her an unusually strong heart so it can swell with pride in her husband’s achievements, sustain the pain of separations, beat soundly when it is overworked and tired, and be large enough to say, ‘I understand,’ when she doesn’t, and say ‘I love you,’ regardless.”

“Lord,” said the angel, touching his arm gently. “Go to bed and get some rest. You can finish this tomorrow.”

“I can’t stop now,” said the Lord. “I am so close to creating something unique. Already this model heals herself when she is sick, can put up six unexpected guests for the weekend, wave goodbye to her husband and understand why it’s important he leave.”

The angel circled the model of the football wife, looked at it closely and sighed, “it looks fine, but it’s too soft.”

“She might look soft,” replied the Lord, “but she has the strength of a lion. You would not believe what she can endure.”

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her fingers across the cheek of the Lord’s creation. “There’s a leak,” she announced. “Something is wrong with the construction. I am not surprised that it has cracked. You are trying to put too much into this model.”

The Lord appeared offended at the angel’s lack of confidence. “What you see is not a leak,” he said. “It’s a tear.”

“A tear? What is it there for?” asked the angel.

The Lord replied, “it’s for joy, sadness, pain, disappointment, loneliness, pride, and dedication to all the values that she and her husband hold dear.”

“You are a genius!” exclaimed the angel.

The Lord looked puzzled, and replied, “I didn’t put it there.”

Friday Night Lights: RHS vs Dallas Jesuit

The Richardson Eagles football season ended on Friday night with a 41-27 loss to Jesuit. The 2013 season didn't go as we wanted, but there were some bright moments. The season started out with an exciting win, but unfortunately fizzled out as the season went on. Hopefully next year will be better!

Season Record: 3-7 (2-5 in district)

Friday Night Lights: RHS vs Richardson Berkner

On Friday night, the Eagles played their last home game of the season. Sadly, it ended in a 41-38 loss to Berkner. It was a fun night recognizing the seniors and everything they have put into the last 4 years of playing football, cheering, dancing with the drill team, playing in the band, and everyone else that contributes on Friday nights. Unfortunately, with the loss, Richardson is officially out of the playoffs, so there is only one game left this season.

Season Record: 3-6 (2-4 in district)

Next week: RHS at Dallas Jesuit

Book #9 - The Job Offer

A few weeks ago, I finished book #9 for the year, The Job Offer by Eleanor Webb. I read this book in just a few days and enjoyed it. The characters are very likeable and you definitely find yourself rooting for them. Here's the description from Amazon:
After years in Boston and a year of working for herself as a contract consultant and adjunct professor, Dr. Anne Conner is ready to return home to work in her field as a marine biochemist and research scientist. With money running low, Anne jumps at the chance to interview for her dream job with the world famous Stanford Enterprises research company.

When she makes the final round of interviews, Anne decides to combine her time in Seattle interviewing with a vacation trip to her family's inn on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands. The last thing she expected was to run in the object of her teenage dreams, Ben Carlson, who is on the island for his sister's wedding. Nor did she plan on the passion that erupts between them. Is their relationship only a vacation romance as they agreed from the beginning, or will it turn into something more when Anne moves back to Seattle?

Just as Anne begins to hope for more, the unthinkable is revealed. Ben is none other than her new boss. Worse yet is that he thinks that she only used him to get the job!
This is another good little book if you just want a quick, easy read. I've got 4 more books to go if I'm going to meet my goal for the year. I haven't started my next book yet, but I need to soon...I've got 4 more to read over the next 2 months!

Friday Night Lights: RHS vs Dallas Skyline

Last night, the Richardson Eagles took on the Raiders of Skyline and fell to them 62-17. It's always hard going into a game like this against the top team in the district that is also one of the best teams in the area. I am glad that our players did not give up and played hard against them. We have two more weeks left in the regular season with a very slim chance at making the playoffs. I just hope our boys keep playing hard to finish out the season.

Season Record: 3-5 (2-3 in district)

Next week: RHS vs Richardson Berkner

Skyline's band is always fun to watch!

Friday Night Lights: RHS vs Dallas W.T. White

On Friday, Richardson got a much needed win against W.T. White defeating the Longhorns 47-14. The team played a complete game in all aspects of the game and got the win. They'll need the confidence going into the last few weeks of the season as we have a tough last 3 weeks of the season. I hope the team keeps fighting hard and going for the "W".

Season Record: 3-4 (2-2 in district)

Friday Night Lights: RHS vs Lake Highlands

On Friday, the Eagles lost another tough battle falling to Lake Highlands 29-18. Once again, the defense kept the team in the game. We will definitely win more games if our defense keeps playing as hard as they have and if the offense can step up a little bit. There are four games left in the season and the team will have to fight hard to get into the playoffs, but I'm confident they can do it if they want it bad enough.

Season Record: 2-4 (1-2 in district)

Next week: RHS at Dallas W.T. White
